An Easy Tip For Relieving Severely Dry Skin

Esthetics by P Brown Ethnic Skincare Experts

QUESTION: I have eczema on my hands, how do I keep them from looking and feeling so dry?

ANSWER: I treat this often at the day spa, you’ll want to use a chemical exfoliant something like a gommage with an occlusive moisturizer, then moisturize daily.

What You Should Know About Severely Dry Skin

What’s a Gommage?

Gommage is a product that exfoliates and leaves the skin really soft. Usually a gommage uses a combination of ingredients to provide a gentle, chemical exfoliation on your skin.

What are Occlusives?

Occlusives are moisturizing agents that work by forming a protective layer on the surface of your skin and create a physical barrier to help prevent water loss from the skin’s surface, while protecting the skin from external irritants. The effect is that you retain moisture on your skin, reduce irritation and restore the skin’s barrier.

Common occlusive agents include waxes (carnauba and beeswax), silicone, oils (olive and soybean), dimethicone, lanolin, mineral oil and white petrolatum.

Occlusives often have a thick, heavy consistency when used topically, this thickness helps them be seen as an ideal choice for very dry skin.

Question: Who Do You Trust With Your Skincare?

Trust Esthetics by P Brown with your skincare

You may not know this, but I have Eczema and Grade 2 acne; my skin doesn’t know what will work for it—any day of the week.  I have to finesse my skin so I don’t look like a snake with pimples.   All of that takes work and if your skin is as finicky as mine, you’ll want to do all that it takes with a professional.

I don’t let everyone touch my skin because if you mess it up it’s going to take a 28-day cycle to fix it…and that won’t make me happy.   With my skincare, I need someone who isn’t just calling themselves an expert; I need someone who has a track record and can provide proof and references if I ask.   Can I call the person you helped?

Become A Part Of The Tribe

What I love about my clients is that if I say to them, “I have someone who had the same issue you have, and (working together) this is how much we accomplished with their skin…”  You can call them.  My clients will talk to anyone about their skincare journey and progress.  I don’t have a single client that would say no… why?  Because we’re in this together.  They would say, “Porsche, please tell her/him to call me so I can share how this went…so I can share where I was emotionally and where I am now—so I don’t have to beat my face (apply makeup) every morning.

We are a family here and that’s the atmosphere I choose to set every day so people can relax in our care. We’re a tribe.

That being said, you will want to select a professional who understands the concept of leading a “tribe.”   You want someone who knows what your pH levels should look like – stable.  Someone who will design a clear game plan and will not charge you (extra) for being on an emotional journey.

You Can Trust Us With Your Emotional Skincare Journey

Unfortunately in this industry, some professionals know that when your face is not the way you want it – it is emotional.  Emotional consumers will pay for convenience while they are in their emotions.  Some professionals take advantage of emotional clients and overcharge them because they know people will pay anything to fix their skin.  Therefore, you need someone with integrity

At Esthetics by P Brown, our philosophy is to help improve the confidence and self-esteem of our clients.  Our goal is to provide affordable skincare so we can extend our reach across the country.  Although I have clients in 49 states and 5 countries, my team takes the journey with each client whether you walk into the day spa or reach us through virtual consultations.

So… please remember that when you pick your professional, you’ll want to find someone who will work—with you—through your journey. We’ve always got room in the tribe, come see us.

I hope this was helpful, if you would like to schedule an appointment, please feel free to schedule with us on our website: www.estheticsbypbrown.com.  If you have any questions about skincare, please feel free to call us at (615) 884 – 6744 or email us at admin@estheticsbypbrown.com.

Help! I Need To Brighten My Bikini Area

Esthetics by P Brown can help clean up all of your bikini area concerns.

This question was a DM in my social media, I’m sharing it so all my (lady) clients know, yes, we can help brighten your bikini area.

QUESTION:

Porsche, I need to get rid of this hyperpigmentation around my bikini area, I’m headed to Jamaica to renew my wedding vows in June, what can I do?

ANSWER:

Believe me, I understand your dilemma, we definitely can help you and we can do it soon so you can check that off your list.  Vaginal hyperpigmentation is common and it can develop from a lot of reasons including hormonal changes.

You can get a body peel where we’ll lay low-grade acids, like a pumpkin enzyme acid, or I’ve done a hibiscus acid or an apple wine acid, something that is gentle enough to peel your intimate area but strong enough to lift up the hyperpigmentation.

No Intimate Relations For 3 Days

If we do a vaginal peel, you will want to wait until three days after the peel to have relations as my grandmother would say.  The reasoning is because you’ll be shedding and there’ll be nothing sexy about it.  Now, once you’ve passed the 72-hour mark, your bikini area will look so good you’ll be wanting to show it off (not suggesting it, just saying).

Pumpkin Is Perfect for the Bikini Area

Pumpkin is the perfect enzyme to use on the bikini area, because it contains Glyolic Acid.  Glycolic Acid is a water-soluble alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), it has the smallest molecules and is why it’s able to easily penetrate the skin.  Glycolic Acid comes from a natural derivative such as Aloe or Pumpkin.  The pumpkin is also loaded with vitamins and antioxidants, it naturally exfoliates dead skin cells.  Pumpkin will give you a flawless glow, even skin, and reduce ingrown hairs.

So if you’re in need of a vaginal peel or have noticed hyperpigmentation below, let us help you.  Also, if you have any questions about hyperpigmentation, chemical peels, or any skincare questions in general, please feel free to call us at (615) 884 – 6744 or email us at admin@estheticsbypbrown.com.

I hope this was helpful and if it was, please leave me a comment below.  Also, please forward this post to anyone you know who would benefit from this information.  Please remember to follow us on social media:FacebookTwitterYouTubeInstagram, and IGTV to see our upcoming classes, seminars, and videos.

Honeycomb Soap: Your Full-Body Moisturizing System

Esthetics by P Brown Honeycomb Soap

Spring has arrived and we’re introducing our newest addition to the “hydrating” soap line – our Honeycomb Soap.  This soap is so refreshing, it will change your bathing routine.  After using with this soap all you’ll feel is hydrated, moisturized skin.

Don’t Miss Out! Get Your Honey Comb Soap Today!

We cannot narrow down the benefits to just one purpose for this Honeycomb soap.  As I was creating this soap, I thought I needed a product that could benefit the masses without my skincare clients having to come in and see me.  With that being said, I questioned the most common issues our clients deal with, how we could meet those needs in a soap and a recipe that was not just for the yoni area.  I created a solution; this soap is perfectly formulated and pH balanced for the entire body.

Since we have a larger ethnic skincare clientele, I started by reviewing the acids that would aid in exfoliation.  There are 2 types of exfoliation: mechanical and chemical.  Mechanical exfoliation requires a tool to remove dead skin cells.  On the other hand, a chemical exfoliation example is your St Ives scrub, and your apricot seeds, which you can find in some of our other soaps.

Chemical means an enzyme or acid that uses a chemical reaction to break down the skin cells.  This is important whether you’re dealing with darkness under your arms or hyperpigmentation and darkness in the vaginal area, knees, or back of the neck.   There are so many areas, especially with clients who have eczema and rosacea, because the main problem if you have eczema and rosacea is that your cellular turnover has slowed down to a crawl.   My job as your Ethnic Skincare Specialist, is to retrain and reboost your skin and get it working at its optimal level.

Side Bar: No one is born with a slow/sluggish cellular turnover.  Usually somewhere between childhood (because parents don’t always know) and young adulthood, your behaviors damage the skin cells, to the point where that turnover cycle has slowed down as the body’s way to protect itself.  And now, you have layers upon layers, upon layers of dead skin.

So, the Honeycomb Soap comes in and uses the Mandelic Acid and use the Ferulic Acid which is great with managing hormones, promoting collagen production, contains anti-aging properties and will slowly dissolve the buildup of dead skin cells.  However, while its doing that if you saw our Instagram Stories you saw the hydration dripping.  Hydration was dripping with an MCT Rose Oil blend that has a little bit of 24k gold inside, so it’s demineralizing the skin as well. The Mct Oil at its base is a metabolizer, as well as an oil, so you’re getting double the exfoliation.  Mct Oil is so strong that if you pour mct oil into a styro-foam cup, it metabolizes to the point that eventually it will eat through the bottom of the cup.  On your skin, Mct Oil has two purposes: it hydrates your skin and it dissolves bacteria breakup on the skin.

This soap can be used on your entire body.  If you want to receive these benefits, go to our website and order your Honeycomb Soap today!

For more information about our Honeycomb Soap or if you would like to schedule an appointment, please feel free to schedule with us on our website: www.estheticsbypbrown.com.  If you have any questions about skincare, please feel free to call us at (615) 884 – 6744 or email us at admin@estheticsbypbrown.com

Kids With Eczema: 2 Quick And Easy Treatments

Does anyone else have this question?

QUESTION:

My four-year-old son has eczema all over his body.   The doctor suggested we use hydrocortisone cream to stop his itching.   My son is so miserable and I can’t keep him from scratching.  He scratches during his sleep and often until his skin bleeds.  Please help me help my son.

RESPONSE:

It sounds like your son’s skin needs exfoliation and hydration.

Eczema is a condition that causes the skin to become itchy.  There are seven different types and it’s not contagious.  It often starts in childhood and there is no cure, but there are treatments to help.  There’s a two ingredient scrub you can make in your kitchen that should help soothe his itching.  The two ingredients needed for the scrub are brown sugar and olive oil.

Benefits of Brown Sugar Olive Oil Scrub

Brown Sugar is great for sensitive skin because it’s a natural exfoliator that doesn’t leave microscopic cuts on the skin and it can easily be used on the face, too.  Brown sugar is an anti-bacterial that contains Glycolic acid.   Glycolic acid happens to be an Alpha-hydroxyl acid which has tiny molecules that easily penetrate the skin, it’s often used in anti-aging products.

Olive Oil is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants, it moisturizes and fights bacteria.  Olive Oil hydrates the skin naturally.

You may want to make batches of the Brown Sugar and Olive Oil scrub and apply it to his skin/body three times at night.

Baby Oil Gel Adds Relief

Another option for relief is if you purchase some baby oil gel and apply it while his skin is wet.  As you gently help dry off your son, the towel can be used to buff the oil into his skin.  The baby oil gel is really good for sealing in moisture.

These are simple lower cost methods to help children with itchiness from eczema.  If you have any further questions about eczema or any skin care questions, please feel free to contact us.  We can be reached by phone at (615) 884 – 6744 or email us at estheticsbypbrown@yahoo.com.

Help! I Think My Skin’s PH Is Out Of Balance!

I found this question on my social media and chose to answer it here.

Question: My skin has been really dry this winter; will I have to deal with dryness in the spring too?

Answer: Oftentimes, our skincare needs change when the seasons change.  To keep up with the changing conditions, you may need to adjust your pH levels.

What’s My PH Level?

When I say pH levels, I’m talking about the acid verses alkaline balance in your skin.  A pH level above 7 is alkaline and a pH level below 7 is acidic.  A pH level right at about 7 is considered neutral.  Of course, too much of anything is not good for you, therefore too acidic or too alkaline is not good for you.

There are a lot of factors that can affect your skin’s pH level, here are a few:

  • Humidity (change of seasons)
  • Air pollution
  • Overexposure of sun
  • Soap and detergents
  • Cosmetics
  • Sweat
  • Tap water

Try A Low Alkaline Cleanser

One of the ways you can balance your pH level with your skincare routine is by using a low alkaline cleanser.  You’ll want to select a cleanser with a pH level between 2.5 and 4.3.

Below are some cleanser suggestions based on your skin type:

  • Normal skin – find a mild cleanser.
  • Oily skin – find a cleanser that contains Salicylic Acid.
  • Dry skin – find a cleanser that contains a moisturizer or find a cream based cleanser that includes Lactic Acid
  • Combination skin – look for a mild cleanser that contains Glycolic Acid.
  • Myelinated skin – find a cleanser containing Hybrid Glycolic Acid.
  • Sensitive skin – look for a cream-based cleanser so it moisturizes your skin but does not contain Alpha Hydroxy Acids

I hope this was helpful, please feel free to contact us with any of your skin care questions or to schedule a virtual consultation.  You may reach us by phone at (615) 884-6744 or by email at estheticsbypbrown@yahoo.com.

How Regular Waxes Can Keep Your Skin Soft And Smooth

There are many benefits to allowing us to assist you with hair removal. Smoother skin is simply one benefit and the results could last 3-4 weeks depending on how quickly your hair grows.  At Esthetics by P Brown, we use Stephanie Layne’s wax.  This wax has an oil base versus a polymer which means it does not contain plastic. Whether we use the hard wax or soft wax depends on the coarseness of the hair.  If your hair is really coarse, we’ll use the hard wax, but if your hair is fine we tend to use a soft wax.  We use the low temperature wax and it’s less painful.

Hard Wax Versus Soft Wax

What is Hard Wax?

Hard wax has a thick consistency.   When it’s applied, it hardens on the skin and maintains a workable consistency that doesn’t require strips to be used, the wax works as the strip.  It melts at a lower temperature, so it feels comfortable to the skin.

What is Soft Wax?

Soft wax doesn’t stick to the skin, but it does stick to the hair.   With this wax, strips are used to remove the hair.

What Happens When I Schedule a Wax Appointment?

When you schedule any wax appointment with the exception of some face wax appointments, you’ll receive an email that provides instructions on how you’ll need to prepare for the appointment.  Instructions may vary, for example, you may be asked to exfoliate 24-48 hours prior to the appointment.  You also may be asked to refrain from using any harsh chemicals on the area for approximately 48 hours.  For example, if your cleanser contains retinal, and you’re scheduling a wax appointment for your face, you would want to stop using the retinal on your face 24 – 48 hours prior to your appointment.   Be sure to check our wax services under Brow and Wax Bar .
