An Easy Tip For Relieving Severely Dry Skin

Esthetics by P Brown Ethnic Skincare Experts

QUESTION: I have eczema on my hands, how do I keep them from looking and feeling so dry?

ANSWER: I treat this often at the day spa, you’ll want to use a chemical exfoliant something like a gommage with an occlusive moisturizer, then moisturize daily.

What You Should Know About Severely Dry Skin

What’s a Gommage?

Gommage is a product that exfoliates and leaves the skin really soft. Usually a gommage uses a combination of ingredients to provide a gentle, chemical exfoliation on your skin.

What are Occlusives?

Occlusives are moisturizing agents that work by forming a protective layer on the surface of your skin and create a physical barrier to help prevent water loss from the skin’s surface, while protecting the skin from external irritants. The effect is that you retain moisture on your skin, reduce irritation and restore the skin’s barrier.

Common occlusive agents include waxes (carnauba and beeswax), silicone, oils (olive and soybean), dimethicone, lanolin, mineral oil and white petrolatum.

Occlusives often have a thick, heavy consistency when used topically, this thickness helps them be seen as an ideal choice for very dry skin.

Kids With Eczema: 2 Quick And Easy Treatments

Does anyone else have this question?

QUESTION:

My four-year-old son has eczema all over his body.   The doctor suggested we use hydrocortisone cream to stop his itching.   My son is so miserable and I can’t keep him from scratching.  He scratches during his sleep and often until his skin bleeds.  Please help me help my son.

RESPONSE:

It sounds like your son’s skin needs exfoliation and hydration.

Eczema is a condition that causes the skin to become itchy.  There are seven different types and it’s not contagious.  It often starts in childhood and there is no cure, but there are treatments to help.  There’s a two ingredient scrub you can make in your kitchen that should help soothe his itching.  The two ingredients needed for the scrub are brown sugar and olive oil.

Benefits of Brown Sugar Olive Oil Scrub

Brown Sugar is great for sensitive skin because it’s a natural exfoliator that doesn’t leave microscopic cuts on the skin and it can easily be used on the face, too.  Brown sugar is an anti-bacterial that contains Glycolic acid.   Glycolic acid happens to be an Alpha-hydroxyl acid which has tiny molecules that easily penetrate the skin, it’s often used in anti-aging products.

Olive Oil is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants, it moisturizes and fights bacteria.  Olive Oil hydrates the skin naturally.

You may want to make batches of the Brown Sugar and Olive Oil scrub and apply it to his skin/body three times at night.

Baby Oil Gel Adds Relief

Another option for relief is if you purchase some baby oil gel and apply it while his skin is wet.  As you gently help dry off your son, the towel can be used to buff the oil into his skin.  The baby oil gel is really good for sealing in moisture.

These are simple lower cost methods to help children with itchiness from eczema.  If you have any further questions about eczema or any skin care questions, please feel free to contact us.  We can be reached by phone at (615) 884 – 6744 or email us at estheticsbypbrown@yahoo.com.

Chemical Peel for Vaginal Hyperpigmentation

Hey Tribe, this question was sent through my social media, I’m sharing in case anyone else has this question.

QUESTION:

What can I do that is not as painful as laser treatments to remove hyperpigmentation from under my arms and my bikini area?  Is there a treatment that’s not high in cost and will it also treat ingrown hairs?

ANSWER: YES

Most estheticians will do a variation of what we call our body peel.  This actually is something that I do (about) quarterly – because I have eczema on my body and I don’t want to look like a reptile.

IT’S A BODY PEEL

So, yes, we do a body peel where we lay low-grade acids, like a Pumpkin Enzyme Acid, or I’ve done a Hibiscus Acid or an Apple Wine acid, something that is gentle enough to peel your intimate area but strong enough to lift up the hyperpigmentation.  We love anything that contains thorazine prohibitors, which will help prevent you from having hyperpigmentation during the healing process.

72-HOUR WAIT

I will say, this as a disclaimer.  If you want to have relations as my grandmother would say, it is not the time within 3 days after this peel.  You don’t want to, because you are shedding, there’s nothing sexy about it.  Now, once you pass the 72-hour mark, your bikini area will look like it was poured from Jesus (so to say – smile).  Also, if you suffer from ingrown hairs, we’ve thinned out that excess ingrown hair that is kind of holding that ingrown hair in or that Folliculitis in and it’s going to slide out like pure butter.  And it’s going to even out your skin tone, those same problems happen up under your arm that will happen in the bikini area, so it’s not just let’s hold here.

PUMPKIN BENEFITS

To be clear, Glycolic Acid in my opinion is a sand blaster.  My exception to that rule, is if your Glycolic Acid comes from a natural derivative such as aloe or pumpkin.  While we love pumpkin lattes, pumpkin is the perfect enzyme to use on the bikini area, it will give you a flawless glow, even skin, reduce ingrown hairs and all jokes aside, tribe, it’s amazing!

I hope this was helpful and if it was, please leave me a comment below.  Also, please forward this post to anyone you know who would benefit from this information.

Quick Nighttime Skincare Routine

EBPB Tub

Have you developed a nightly routine for yourself that helps you wake up looking flawless?  If you haven’t, this is for you… this is my personal nightly routine.

Start with washing your hands and then selecting the cleanser.   Then with clean, dry hands, start the process.

Refrain from turning the water back on, because we don’t want to dilute the cleanser. EBPB PB product

  • Put the cleanser in your hands and you want to make sure that for the first minute or so you massage it into your skin—while your skin is dry. Start with your cheeks and chin and work your way in a circular motion around to your forehead.

You want to make sure it has time to break down any oil barriers on your skin and start removing the dirt.  Notice, when you start to feel drag in your skin, then you know you have massaged it good enough.  Just like lotion, once you start to feel it absorb, you know its kind-of getting past that first barrier.  Honestly that’s what I look for when I do facials.  Make sure your skin has absorbed the cleanser,

This is when a gentle scrubber comes in handy.   We sell several versions of these at the Day Spa.

  • Since I have eczema, my routine is to put a tiny bit of water on the scrubber, then you’ll take the scrubber and rub it on your face to emulsify the cleanser.   Rub it in a circular motion, you don’t have to press in, just go over gently in a circular motion upward; remember to apply it to your nose.  And because of the material, it should literally conform to your skin.

Then, without re-wetting it, switch hands and start on the opposite side, making sure everything is good and scrubbed.  As you are going over the opposite side (if you need to), add a tiny bit more water to the scrubber just to emulsify the skin,

You will know you have a good cleanser when there’s no dirt on your scrubber when you finish.  Now I believe in sanitizing, so my scrubber will get cleaned with antibacterial soap and dropped in the Barbicide (salon disinfectant), because I am that aesthetician.

EBPB white towels

Now with a regular dry towel, I use white because I don’t like extra dies on my face.

  • Add water and I will go ahead and remove my cleanser.
  • As you dry off your face, you may notice a slight amount of redness, but don’t be alarmed, that’s a sign of deep clean.
  • Another reason the scrubber is used is to break up any oil buildup on your skin. You’ll want to see all that removed from your skin, and if you don’t remove it – it won’t come off.

Now the reason you want to do it with a damp towel is because you want your face somewhat damp when you go to the next step.

EBPB Coconut oil

In my nightly routine, my next step is coconut oil.  One of the misconceptions that we often make is we assume coconut oil will clog our skin.  For this application, you only need a little – about ½ teaspoon.

Rub it between your hands and apply it to your face while your face is still a little damp – you want it to trap the hydration.

After you get the oil fully applied, you want another dry towel to gently remove any access oil, and then … look at your face GLO!

At the end of the routine, hopefully what you’ll see is freshness, elasticity, and bounce-back skin.

Once you get used to the routine, it will be really quick and you’ll be able to do it speedily, especially during those times when you feel too tired.

Quick Eczema Relief for Kids

EBPB Mom child 1

This question was sent to me on one of my social media sites – so, in case you were wondering, yes I read your questions….

QUESTION:

My daughter is a toddler and she has eczema all over her body.   The doctor told me to use hydrocortisone cream on her body to stop the itching.  I had eczema as a child, but mine is under control.   My baby has it all over her body and on her face and she scratches her skin until it bleeds.  How can I help my baby, because she is miserable?

RESPONSE:

It sounds like the baby’s skin needs exfoliation and hydration.  What I believe would help this baby is a scrub that mom can make in her own kitchen.  The two ingredients needed for the scrub are brown sugar and olive oil.

Brown Sugar is a natural exfoliator that doesn’t leave microscopic cuts on the skin; that’s why it is good for sensitive skin and it can easily be used on the face, too.  Brown sugar is an anti-bacterial that contains Glycolic acid.   Glycolic acid happens to be an Alpha-hydroxyl acid which helps in the anti-aging process.

Olive Oil is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants which also help with anti-aging and olive oil hydrates the skin naturally.

My suggestion to this mom is that she make up batches of the Brown Sugar and Olive Oil scrub and apply it to her daughter’s skin/body three times at night.  Then try or buy some baby oil gel and apply it while the baby’s skin is wet.  While mom is drying her daughter – gently,  the towel can be used to buff the oil into her skin.  The baby oil gel is really good for sealing in moisture.

This is a simple lower cost method to help the child’s itchiness.  If you have any further questions about eczema or any skin care questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Who Do You Trust?

EBPB p brown 1Who do you trust, with your beauty?

You may not know this, but I have Eczema and Grade 2 acne; my skin doesn’t know what will work for it—any day of the week.  I have to finesse my skin so I don’t look like a snake with pimples.  I have to finesse your skin so you don’t look like a snake with pimples.  All of that takes work and you’ll want to do all that it takes with a professional.

EBPB Soc Media 2

I don’t let everyone mess with my skin because if you mess it up it’s going to take a 28 day cycle to fix it…and that won’t make me happy.    I need someone who isn’t just calling themselves an expert; I need someone who has a track record.  I need someone who can give me proof.  I need to know that you didn’t just pull pictures off the internet and put them in your social media feed and say “I did that.”

Can I call the person you helped?

EBPB phone call

What I love about my clients is that if I say to them, “I have someone who had the same issue you have, and (working together) this is how much we accomplished with their skin…”  You can call them.  My clients will talk to anyone about their skincare journey and progress.  I don’t have a single client that would say no… why?  Because, we’re in this together.  They would say, “Porsche, please tell her/him to call me so I can share how this went…so I can share where I was emotionally and where I am now—so I don’t have to beat my face (apply makeup) every morning.

My clients and I are a tribe – that’s why you hear me say “tribe.”  We are literally a family here and that’s the atmosphere I choose to set everyday so people can relax in our care.

That being said, you will want to select a professional who understands the concept of leading a “tribe.”   You want someone who knows what your pH levels should look like – stable.  Someone who then will design has a clear game plan and will not charge you (extra) for being on an emotional journey.

EBPB money

Unfortunately in this industry, there are some professionals who know that when your face is not the way you want it – it is emotional.  And emotional consumers will pay for convenience while they are in their emotions.  Some professionals take advantage of emotional clients and charge 3 times what is needed because emotional consumers will pay anything to fix their skin.  Therefore, you need someone with integrity

At Esthetics by P Brown, our philosophy is to help improve the confidence and self-esteem of our clients.  Our goal is to provide affordable skincare so we can extend our reach across the country.  Although I have clients in 48 states and 8 countries, me and my team take the journey with each client-whether you walk into the day spa or reach us through virtual consultations.

So… please remember that when you pick your professional, you’ll want to find someone who will work—with you—through your journey.

Other clients I attract, are those who have visited a dermatologist who was not able to fully address their problem or the clients were not pleased with the dermatologists’ results.  I am very much known for the concept, “when the conventional does not work – try the unconventional.”

Does it matter where I live? NO – I have clients in 7 countries, and 47 states.
